Duncan Sterling joined The Sotheby’s Wine Department in New York in 2002. During a career there of 14 years, the last 5 of which he spent as head of the New York wine auctions, he presided over auctions totaling more than $200 million dollars. Sales of note included consignments direct from Château Haut Brion in 2004, Château Mouton Rothschild in 2007, Château Cheval Blanc & Château Yquem in 2012, Maison Krug in 2012, Maison Joseph Drouhin in 2014, and Château Margaux in 2015.
He was instrumental in securing the most successful and valuable sales series ever held by the Sotheby’s Wine Department: The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector, which went on to make in excess of $50 million in New York and Hong Kong. He closed his career at Sotheby’s with second largest sale in the history of Sotheby’s Wine New York: The Don Stott Cellar, 50 Years of Collecting. The 2 part sales series made $13.6 million dollars.
